About Me

A brief accounting of my professional experience

Career Summary

Tech-savvy artist, designer and developer with more than twelve years experience working in the web and software development industries; a seasoned producer with the knowledge and ability to translate ideas into solutions.

My name is Daniel Humann; I'm an artist, designer and web developer living in Denver, Colorado. I've had the priviledge of working in the web and software development industries for more than twelve years.

Over the course of my career, I've contributed to the production of desktop and Internet software applications, hundreds of websites, and myriad other collateral assets. These items were created for [public and private sector] entities which include government agencies, non-profit groups, and a disparate array of clients that represent a broad cross-section of business and industry.

My areas of expertise are electronic media and internet development. I excel in visual communication, web design and web development. I'm also well versed in user experience design for web sites and client software applications.

In regards to development technologies, I've dabbled with all sorts. Although each have their merits, I tend to choose open-source technologies and proven standards over bleeding-edge, proprietary stuff. I work with server-side technologies, such as Apache and PHP, client-side technologies, like JavaScript, and W3C recommendations for mark-up and styling languages (e.g. XML, HTML, CSS).

When it comes to web and software development, my philosophy is: keep it simple. Computer systems should be easy to use; they should make tasks, jobs and lives easier. However, the success of a software app can not be judged solely on how easy it is to use. So what seperates the "killer apps" from other things out there that just do the job? Truly great apps are easy-to-use, aethestically pleasing and require minimal support. Furthermore, software solutions that limit stress and save time, in the end, usually save money. To me, those are the hallmarks of a truly successful application.

On the job, I'm comfortable wearing any number of different hats. For example: I can research, wireframe and construct prototypes; I can do front-end design work; I can code dynamic pages and script client-side interactivity; I work well with multi-disciplinary teams and can take a thousand disparate parts and fuse them together into a cohesive solution. I set the highest standards of quality and I'm good at what I do. But don't take my word for it. See what some of my colleagues have to say about me.

Testimonials

Commitment to Quality

"If you want it done right: talk to Dan. I don't know anyone who's more expert in the 'ins and outs' of HTML and CSS, including the latest standards and how they should be applied. When you combine that expertise with his commitment to producing quality work, it's really quite something."
